Vixen, as portrayed within The CW's Arrowverse, is the shared mantle of two distinct characters, both inheriting the Tantu Totem which grants them the ability to channel the powers of any animal.
The first Vixen introduced was Mari McCabe, portrayed by Megalyn Echikunwoke. She made her debut in the animated web series Vixen, which premiered on CW Seed in 2015, serving as an origin story for her character within the broader Arrowverse. Mari is a Detroit-based fashion designer who learns of her inherited powers and the totem's history.
Following the animated series, a live-action version of Vixen appeared in Arrow's fourth season. However, due to scheduling conflicts with Echikunwoke, the role was recast. The second Vixen of the Arrowverse, Amaya Jiwe, is Mari's grandmother. She is also the Vixen member of the Justice Society of America. She was portrayed by Maisie Richardson-Sellers and also appeared in Legends of Tomorrow.
Both women leverage the Tantu Totem to fight crime and injustice, drawing upon the abilities of various creatures to aid their allies in the Arrowverse.
